Marie-Josée Roy, from Trois-Rivières, is one of the few women blacksmiths in the country. She pushed her creativity further, to tap into this tough profession and long associated with men, a resolutely artistic approach. It is by forging that one becomes a blacksmith … and an artist.
Coverage by Radio Canada’s TéléJournal of the exhibition of Marie-Josée Roy’s artworks at the headquarters of the Cirque du Soleil in Montreal, broadcasted May 6th 2010.
At the beginning, a simple idea, a short synopsis.. In her blacksmith eyes, a film and a sculpture that will unfold together, one influencing the other and vice et versa. We would thus have to carve our film as Marie-Josée would advance in her sculpting, her work would influence our own, our filming would bias her process. An artistic spiral where everyone will have to constantly readapt. Even though we are tight on following our initial concept, ideas will keep popping out to a point where even the initial concept of the sculpture itself will change during the course of the shooting. The sculpture’s modifications forcing us to modify our story line.. etc.. etc….
